Discord ToS & Community Guidelines

Chapter 15 — What Discord itself requires, and where Federal SMP rules layer on top.

As staff, you enforce Federal SMP's own rules, but you must also understand what Discord itself requires every server to enforce. Some violations must be escalated to Discord's own Trust & Safety team, not just handled internally.

What Discord Requires Regardless of Server Rules

  • Minimum age. Discord requires users to be 13 or older (or the minimum age in their country if higher). Staff who become aware of an underage member should follow Discord's reporting process.
  • No CSAM or content sexualizing minors. Any such content must be reported to Discord immediately and never engaged with, screenshotted for internal use, or discussed casually — this is a strict "report and escalate to Discord immediately" situation.
  • No doxxing or sharing private information about someone without consent.
  • No organizing or promoting real-world harm, including violent extremism.
  • No account trading/selling in violation of Discord's Terms, distinct from Federal SMP's own in-game economy.

Federal SMP Rules on Top of Discord's Baseline

Everything in Chapter 22 (Staff Code of Conduct) and the general community rules exists on top of these Discord-wide requirements. Federal SMP rules can be stricter than Discord's ToS, but never more permissive.

GOLDEN RULE

If you ever encounter content or behavior that crosses from "against our rules" into "against Discord's Terms of Service" (especially anything involving minors' safety), report it to Discord directly and immediately involve an Admin — do not treat it as a routine in-server matter.

Quick Review — Q&A

Q: What is Discord's baseline minimum age requirement?

A: 13, or higher if required by the user's country.

Q: What should staff do if they encounter content sexualizing minors?

A: Report it to Discord immediately, never engage with or screenshot it for internal discussion, and treat it as an urgent escalation, not routine moderation.

Q: Can Federal SMP's own rules be stricter than Discord's Terms of Service?

A: Yes — server rules can be stricter, but never more permissive than Discord's baseline requirements.
