Activity & Reliability

Chapter 19 — Expectations around attendance, communication, and balancing staff duties with play.

Consistency builds trust — both from players and from the rest of the team. A staff member who shows up reliably, even for short sessions, is more valuable than one who occasionally puts in a long burst of effort and then disappears for weeks.

Expectations

  • Log in and check tickets/reports regularly, even on days you aren't actively playing.
  • Communicate in advance if you'll be inactive for an extended period — nobody expects perfect attendance, but silence without warning creates uncertainty for the rest of the team.
  • Respond to direct staff pings or urgent requests in a reasonable time, even just to acknowledge you've seen it.
  • Inactivity without communication for a prolonged period may result in a rank review, not as a punishment, but because the team needs to know who is actively available.

Balancing Staff Duties With Actually Playing

You were promoted because you're part of this community, not despite it. Enjoy playing Federal SMP as a player too — reliability doesn't mean being on duty every waking moment, it means being dependable when you are online.

Quick Review — Q&A

Q: What should you do if you know you'll be inactive for an extended period?

A: Communicate it to the team in advance, rather than disappearing without warning.

Q: Is occasional inactivity a punishable offense?

A: No — nobody expects perfect attendance. The concern is disappearing without any communication, since that creates uncertainty for the team.

Q: Does being reliable mean staying on duty constantly?

A: No — it means being dependable and responsive when you are online, while still enjoying the server as a player.
