Common player questions and ready-made staff responses — copy, paste, and adapt to save time on shift.

This page collects the questions staff hear most often, along with answers you can give immediately and template responses you can copy-paste into chat or tickets. Bookmark it. You will use it every shift.

Common Player Questions

These are the questions players ask in chat, tickets, and DMs more than anything else. Know the answers cold.

"How do I claim land?"

Grab a golden shovel (given in your starter kit or craftable). Right-click one corner of the area you want to protect, then right-click the opposite corner. The claim boundary will appear as gold blocks and glowstone at the edges.

  • /claimslist — view all your current claims and remaining claim blocks.
  • /abandonallclaims — remove all claims (use carefully).
  • /abandonclaim — remove the claim you are standing in.

TIP

You earn more claim blocks by playing. If a player says they have run out, remind them that active playtime grants additional blocks automatically.

"How do I trust someone on my claim?"

The server uses three trust levels. Explain the differences so the player picks the right one:

CommandWhat it allows
/accesstrust <player>Use buttons, levers, and doors only.
/containertrust <player>Access chests, furnaces, and containers plus everything above.
/trust <player>Full build permission — place and break blocks — plus everything above.

Use /untrust <player> to revoke any level. Use /trustlist while standing in a claim to see who has access.

TIP

Advise players to use the lowest trust level that fits the situation. Most players only need /containertrust for shared storage and /accesstrust for visitors.

"Someone griefed me!"

Two scenarios:

  1. The area was claimed — the claim should have blocked it. Ask for coordinates and a time estimate, then escalate to investigate. If someone bypassed protections, escalate immediately.
  2. The area was unclaimed — sympathize, but explain that unclaimed land is not protected. Encourage them to claim their builds going forward. Staff generally cannot roll back unclaimed areas, but use your judgement and consult a senior if the damage is severe.

"How do I set a home?"

  • /sethome <name> — save your current location.
  • /home <name> — teleport to a saved home.
  • /delhome <name> — delete a saved home.
  • /homes — list all your saved homes.

Players have a limited number of homes based on their rank. If someone asks why they cannot set another, check their rank's home limit.

"How do I get to spawn?"

/spawn — that is it. Teleportation has a short warmup; tell players not to move during the countdown or it will cancel.

"How do I trade safely?"

Direct the player to use the AxTrade plugin:

/trade <player> — opens a secure trade window where both sides can add items and confirm before anything is exchanged.

TIP

Always recommend /trade over drop-trading. If a player reports a scam from a drop-trade, staff options are limited because there is no transaction log. AxTrade logs everything.

"How do I warp?"

  • /warps — browse all available player warps.
  • /pw set <name> — create your own player warp (costs in-game currency).
  • /pw remove <name> — delete one of your warps.

Player warps are community-created. Staff do not manage them unless a warp name or location violates the rules.

"How do I report a player?"

Two options:

  1. In Discord — open a ticket in the appropriate support channel. Include the player's IGN, what happened, and any evidence.
  2. In-game — message an online staff member directly or use the report command if available.

Encourage players to provide screenshots, video, or at minimum coordinates and a timeframe. Reports without evidence are much harder to act on.

Common Staff Responses

Copy-paste these into chat or tickets and adjust the details. Consistent, professional wording builds player trust.

Grief Report

Thanks for reporting. Can you provide the coordinates and approximate time this happened? We will investigate and follow up with you.

Ban Appeal Received

Your appeal has been received. A staff member who was not involved in the original ban will review it within 24-48 hours. Please be patient and do not open additional tickets for the same appeal.

Items Lost to Grief

If the area was claimed and items were stolen, we will investigate and pursue restitution where possible. If the area was unclaimed, we strongly recommend claiming all of your builds going forward to prevent this in the future. Unfortunately, staff options for unclaimed areas are limited.

Hacker Accusation

Thank you for the report. Please provide any evidence you have — screenshots, video, or the approximate time and location. We will look into it. Our anti-cheat flags many issues automatically, but player reports help us catch what it misses.

Rank/Role Request

Ranks are earned through trust and demonstrated ability, not requested. Keep contributing positively to the community, and staff will take notice when positions open up.

New Player Greeting

Welcome to Federal SMP! Start by reading the rules in #rules on Discord, then hop in-game and head to /spawn to explore. Grab a golden shovel from the starter kit and claim your first base. If you have questions, just ask — we are here to help.

Punishment Dispute

If you would like to appeal, please open a ticket in the appeals category on Discord. Include your in-game name and the reason you believe the punishment should be reviewed. A staff member who was not involved in the original action will handle the appeal.

TIP

Never argue a punishment with a player in public chat. Keep it short — "Please open a ticket to discuss this further" — and move the conversation to a private ticket or DM. Public back-and-forth undermines staff authority and escalates situations.

Server Rules Quick Reference

When a player needs a refresher, point them here or to the #rules channel. This is the short version — the full breakdown with punishment tiers lives in the Server Rules & Punishment Scale chapter.

  1. No cheating or hacking — modified clients, x-ray, auto-clickers, and macros that give unfair advantage.
  2. No griefing claimed land — building in, damaging, or stealing from another player's claim.
  3. No harassment or hate speech — zero tolerance in chat, signs, books, builds, Discord, or any other medium.
  4. No scamming — use /trade for safe exchanges. Intentional deception in trades or deals is punishable.
  5. No spam or advertising — this includes other server IPs, repetitive messages, and character spam.
  6. No alt accounts to evade bans — alts used to bypass any active punishment result in an extended ban on all accounts.
  7. Respect staff decisions — disagree through the appeals process, not in public chat.
  8. Keep chat appropriate — the server is open to all ages. Use common sense.

TIP

When citing a rule to a player, reference the rule number. "You were warned for Rule 3 — harassment" is clearer and more professional than a vague explanation. Consistency in how staff cite rules makes enforcement feel fair.
